Massage

pine-manor-massagePine Manor is privileged to have Pindey as our primary massage therapist. Pindey describes his offerings and experience:

SHIATSU
Shiatsu is a form of therapeutic bodywork from Japan. It uses kneading, pressing, soothing, tapping, and stretching techniques and is performed without oils through light, comfortable clothing.
“Shiatsu” translates as “finger pressure.” There are different styles of Shiatsu, all of which have roots in one of three systems that developed in Japan in the early 1900s. I have practiced Shiatsu since early 1990 and the style I use is called Zen Shiatsu, taught by great teacher Lawrence Cole. Shiatsu can be used in the treatment of a wide range of internal, musculoskeletal, and emotional conditions.

ACUPRESSURE
Acupressure is an ancient healing art that uses the fingers to press key points on the surface of the skin to stimulate the body’s natural self-curative abilities. When these points are pressed, they release muscular tension and promote the circulation of blood and the body’s life force (sometimes known as qi or chi) to aid healing. Shiatsu and Acupressure are based on classic Chinese acupuncture theory. I practice a particular style of acupressure called Jin Shin Do developed by Iona Teeguardden.

LOMILOMI
This system of massage utilizes very large, broad movements. Two-handed, forearm, and elbow application of strokes, which cover a broad area, is characteristic of lomilomi. Lomilomi is Hawaiian for rub rub. Similar to Swedish massage in many aspects, this system uses prayer and the acknowledgment of the existence of a higher power as an integral part of the technique. I learned this style from a famous Hawaiian teacher Daniel Flower.

REFLEXOLOGY
Based on an ancient Chinese therapy, reflexology involves manipulation of specific reflex areas in the foot, hands, and ears that correspond to other parts of the body. Similar to acupressure principles, reflexology works with the body’s energy flow to stimulate self-healing and maintain balance in physical function. This technique is used to reduce pain, increase relaxation, and stimulate circulation of blood and lymphatic fluids.

SWEDISH MASSAGE
Swedish massage is a vigorous system of treatment designed to energize the body by stimulating circulation. The many benefits of Swedish massage may include generalized relaxation, dissolution of scar tissue adhesion, and improved circulation, which may speed healing and reduce swelling from injury. I have been practicing Swedish Massage since late 1980s.
